Direct observation and drawing underpins Fiona’s practice. She immerses herself in the act of drawing – utilising the breadth of mark making possibilities, and the ability to remove, add, combine, adjust and layer. She creates semi abstract and abstract images from figurative references, predominantly the human figure and often works from life.

Fiona works in shapes, negative space and paired back colour palettes allowing the images to slowly emerge and distort, to give the viewer a sense of space and perspective, and sometimes visual narrative, without describing it fully. An abstract realism.
